Meet the Board of Trustees:
Peter Lederer is our Chair
“I came into the Hotel & Catering industry because it was a people business. As a dyslexic and having struggled at school, looking after people appealed. I have been privileged to have worked and played with wonderful people -not only outstanding leaders and managers but great cleaners, waiters and greenkeepers. All different, all special, with obvious and hidden talents and all wanting to make the most of their lives.
In life, if things are not right, if people around you are not fulfilling their potential, you can either sit and watch on the sideline or you can get involved in the game. One & All is a very important game to win.... for us as individuals, as an industry and as a society.”
Michael Caines
“I believe that we should all aim to have as many people as possible progress and form careers in our industry. We need to encourage everyone to aim for the top. As someone who is generally regarded as having done well, both as a chef and in business, when I look around I am certainly in the minority. I’m a black, British born and bred, Michelin starred Chef and business man.
I hope that through One and All we can inspire people from different groups, I hope that we can motivate them to do their best and to succeed. I also hope that I can act as a strong role model and as a positive example of the things that can be achieved in our industry.”
Philippa Cresswell
"I am extremely excited to be a Founding Trustee of the One and All Foundation as I feel absolutely passionate that everyone should have access to the support and development that they require.
I have been fortunate in my own career to have worked with open minded and forward thinking professionals who were committed to developing future talent and as a result in my own career I have focused heavily on creating cultures which are open, and provide opportunity for everyone across all levels of skill and diversity.
I feel that the energy in the One and All foundation coupled with such positive senior industry support can provide a real platform to drive change, and support the development and progression of those that seek it. "
Debrah Dhugga
"I choose to support One and All in order to be part of group wanting to help promote the opportunities in this industry as a positive career option for those seeking career progression - not just a job. We are all one family and move in the world the same way - with hard work and dedication. Truly equal employment opportunities cannot be denied to any person.
We also seek to promote the opportunities and benefits of the industry to people who are keen to progress but don't know how to get there. We want to share the fact we are an industry that believes that it really is for ‘one and all’.
We aim to show people the way in which we operate and work with individuals on some of the challenges that they may face. "
Ian Hall
"I have committed myself to One and All because I passionately believe that everyone, irrespective of their background, should be given the opportunity and the working environment in which they can fulfil their true potential."
Andy Kemp
"I am passionate about the opportunities and achievement of career paths within the hospitality industry and feel strongly that anyone who has the capability, drive and desire to achieve greatness within our industry should be given the opportunity to achieve this.
The culture within this organisation is embodied in this ethos and I believe that the senior executive within the industry should stand up supporting and driving this very necessary objective
The reason that I wanted to be a Trustee is that I believe that through One and All we can create opportunities to drive massive change, particularly as I personally understand the difficulties and obstacles that can dissuade employers from taking advantage of diverse groups.
I truly believe that the Foundation has the enablers and elements to make this change and by working closely with all of the other industry bodies we can achieve our aims."
David McHattie
"This is a great industry which offers wonderful opportunities for anyone who cares to aspire to succeed. I have had the good fortune to be guided and developed by many people along the way, not everyone is so fortunate. Too many talented people pass us by or hide their light under a bushel - they never see the opportunities or realise their potential.
I know our industry is a meritocracy but unless the lifeblood or our industry; our teams present and future; know and believe this – we simply lose out on talent that goes to shine elsewhere or worse still doesn’t get to shine at all.
One and All can play a significant part in ensuring that many more people aspire - and with the assistance of the good enlightened employers we have in the sector - succeed and fulfill their potential. The message is clear this meritocracy is open and accessible for development who ever you are. "
Chris Sheppardson
"We have long debated the skills shortages and yet it is clear that there are pools of talent that have not broken through and that need support in ensuring that they are able to prosper. One of the core objectives is to ensure that the industry is creating an environment that allows talent - regardless of race, religion, origin, or gender - to prosper. It is simply the right way forward.
The Hospitality Industry is an exciting, dynamic industry where the differential is often one that is creative and service led rather than academic. It is an industry where raw talent can develop through from grassroots up to CEO. This is something to be very proud of and yet there seem to be a number of artificial barriers to letting talent break through. Often these barriers are created unintentionally but exist all the same and we need to raise awareness that talent exists in many different forms. They could have a disability, be from a BAME group, female, Muslim – it does not matter if people are different. What matters is if they have talent.
I think that such a principle is worth supporting."
Nick Sheppardson
“Hospitality has always been an industry which has been known for recognising people’s merits without regard to their individual background. As the demographic profile of the working population in the UK changes and becomes ever more diverse it is all the more important that people from all backgrounds, genders, beliefs and disabilities are encouraged to join the Industry and be developed to their full potential.
I strongly believe that the One and All Foundation can act as a positive force in helping the Hospitality Industry to develop all the talent within its work force irrespective of their backgrounds, genders, beliefs or disabilities.”
